A Poem For 9–11

tribute to 9-11-2001Image by samatt via Flickr
Our oldest daughter was 9yr, when she was 14yr we were talking about the events
while watching he news.  I asked her if she had something to say about how it affected her.
She wrote this poem. I have kept it back not quite knowing what to do with it and today is the day.
We are very proud of her and her words.
Love You, baby!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's no place to run and hide.
When they track your every move
Their goal in life is to kill
5 years ago they struck
They say they will strike again
But when?
No one knows what they are planning
We are unlike them
So to them, we are to die
To them, honor is won by killing
Their dreams are to kill
Even if that means to kill themselves in their line of duty
To Kill people who are different than themselves
We send people over across the sea
To try to stop their deadly ways
Is it working?
They are obsessed with our death
All that they generate is hate
Someone stop them
People are trying but half of them are dying
…from seed to blossom, from blossom to fruit.
I enjoyed watching "Little House on the Prairie" as a girl, and shared the reruns with my kids. About a year ago, I found out Melissa Gilbert had written her memoir, Prairie Tales, and I couldn't pass up reading the book. It is not flowery in the telling of her story, nor embellished with smut. I thought it was pretty down to earth under the circumstances. She had this poem at the beginning of the book, it is sooo inspirational.
Dawna Markova
I will not die an unlived life.
I will not live in fear
Of falling or catching fire.
I choose to inhabit my days,
To allow my living to open me,
To make me less afraid.
More accessible,
To loosen my heart
Until it becomes a wing,
A torch, a promise.
I choose to risk my significance;
To live so that which came to me as seed goes to the next as blossom
And that which came to me as blossom,
Goes on as fruit.
During this time period, we as a family had been through a lot of disturbing things. We were being ostrisized by our families, my husband had been through several job changes due to the "downsizing of America", 2 kids that had to be hospitalized, unfortunately the list does go on.
I have always know that God was leading me on the paths I had taken. So I knew no matter what everyone else thought, I was and am following God's will. Not unlike anyone else, when you listen to all the demeaning remarks and being treated like you are less of a person because you don't fit into their mold, I did start to question my beliefs and actions. Reading this poem reminded me that, I am significant and that my seeds are beginning their blossoming phase.
Matthew 7:17, 18, 20 (New American)
Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit.
So by their fruits you will know them.
Truth
i've made mistakes in my life.
i've let people take advantage of me and i accepted way less than i deserve.
but i've learned from my bad choices and even though there are some things i can never get back and people who will never be sorry,
i'll know better next time and i won't settle for anything less than i deserve.
A Poem of Hope
HOPE
You can not ignore what is in front of your face.
We all have to learn at our own pace.
Acceptance and growth are needed to obtain God’s saving grace.
We all are called, He only asks us to move at our own pace,
So that we may meet Him in heaven and gaze upon His loving face.
